They Came From Across The Sea - a celebration of cultures, the Hunter Valley is host to many cultures, each has enriched daily life.

Three photographers - Carla Feltham, Michelle Maartinez and Martin Trew - were invited to photographically record the construction of the new Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG). All three are Hunter based artists and thus the task of visiting, and visiting again as the building took on its particular form was not too difficult. Each came at a different time and, although they knew about each other’s projects and purposes, they worked alone and very quietly on Construction.

Begin with a tour through the Hope Estate winery, directly sampling from barrels and vats. When we return to the Great Cask Hall, you will be treated to a 3 course degustation prepared by Harvest Restaurant and matched to Hope Estate wines.

We are holding our luncheon with guest speaker – DEBBIE ROBSON, the author of TOMAREE. Debbie comes from Warners Bay and has written a book on the US army based at Tomaree. An excerpt, Port Stephens is one of my favourite places in the world. With its endless blue water and spectacular headlands, it must have seemed an incredible place to the 20,000 GI's of the 32nd Division who trained there in 1943. Most came from Wisconsin and Michigan and many had never seen the sea. The division by the war's end had logged a total of 654 combat days, more than any other US army division.

On Saturday 13 March , Australia’s leading motocross riders will converge on the Maitland Showground. Come and see Australia’s best Junior and Senior  MX riders. A great family day out with food and refreshments available on the day.

Hunter food and wine will be available for tastings and sales. Its a Festival of Two Palettes. A fashion parade celebrating the rich culture in Australia brought by those who came from across the sea. Items featured are both from AMCAT collection and privately owned garments.

Every Sunday, MRAG invites families to drop into the art gallery for free art activities that are inspired by the exhibitions on display. Every week is different, no bookings are required and all materials are provided. This free activity is held in the children’s workshops, adjacent to MRAG’s dedicated children’s art and play space, the Art Factory. Please do not leave children unattended, parental supervision is required.

The Art Factory, MRAG’s children’s art space, is a dual exhibition space and play space that engages children with professional works of art. This space is open to the public Tuesday to Sunday, 10 – 5pm excluding public holidays.

The Ink in Klink tattoo show with a tattooist on site will be interesting as males and females vie for the trophy  and the competition for the top bike will be hotly contested with $2000 in prize money up for grabs.If your a custom car or hot rod fan then you won't be disappointed with the cars on display. Also the entertain will be exotic dancers, wet T Shirt competition and more. Proceeds of the day will go to assisting Maitland Palliative Care and Ronald McDonald House. Hunter Valley Gardens is set to rock this Seniors Week with performances by Steve King, Australia's best Elvis Tribute Artist and his stunning Las Vegas Show Girls. Hunter Valley Gardens will be proudly hosting an activity packed schedule to celebrate the valuable contribution seniors make to the community. Speak to special guests Brian McGuigan and Gretta Anna or join in on one of the daily garden talks and tours with the trained horticultural staff.  All seniors receive a special entry rate of $10.00 and a Free Soft Serve Ice Cream.

A weekend of Classic American Cars, Hot Rods and Rock & Roll. Friday starts with a Welcome BBQ, at night there's Let's Blast Off and Murder on the Rock & Roll Express at Richmond Vale Railway. Saturday has Markets, Kurri Kurri Superstar Talent Quest, Show and Shine, Observation Run and Mural Tours. Saturday night is when entertainment is the word with Rockabilly Rules, Rock N Roll Heaven, The Sock Hop and Rockin' School Days. Counterpoint Chamber Choir, a Maitland-based, 20 voice mixed choir will present a variety concert featuring choral music ranging from sacred to secular, classical to contemporary. The concert will be held in the recently restored Maitland Gaol Auditorium which now provides an intimate air-conditioned performance venue with raked and floor level seating, comfortably accommodating an audience of 200. Counterpoint presented the inaugural concert in the then newly renovated Chapel at Maitland Gaol in 2007 and will again present the inaugural concert in this new venue.

The 4th annual Hunter Valley World’s Greatest Shave Trivia Night is the Leukaemia Foundation’s biggest fundraising event. “As well as raising money for a great cause, it’s lots of fun and anyone can participate,”  There will be raffles, auctions and more with thousands of dollars worth of prizes to be won. Licensed event with sausage sizzle available and BYO nibblies. Pre-purchased tickets receive 1 complimentary Wine or Beer or Sift Drink.

The annual Maitland Taste - Food, Wine & Jazz Festival, will transform the Heritage Mall over the last weekend in March into a celebration of food and wine, set to the accompanying dulcet sounds of live jazz.
Festival marquees will host food demonstrations by top class chefs; and local wine makers and sommeliers will run master classes and wine education forums. Jazz music will be played live from two stages in the Heritage Mall, and additional venues in the vicinity.
Market stalls will be laden throughout the Mall with fresh produce, international cuisine, cheeses, boutique beer and a wide selection of Hunter Valley wines.

Readings from St. Luke's gospel follow the journey of Jesus from his baptism, through his ministry of teaching and healing, to his suffering and death and then to his rising to life again on the first Easter morning. The story is illustrated with music from across the ages, choral items for the choir and well-known hymns for everyone.

Hunter Valley Gardens will be hosting a fantastic program of games, activities, entertainment and prizes over the Easter Long Weekend including Easter bonnet craft, giant parachute, egg and spoon races, sack races, an Easter sing-along show, hatching chickens and colouring in competition. During Easter Saturday and Sunday, join the Easter Bunny to search for lots of coloured eggs in the Giant Easter Egg Hunt. Every child will receive a gift of Easter chocolate at the completion of the hunt.

Celebrating 25 years of Hunter Valley Steamfest the Steamfest Silver Anniversary Ball in the Mall is organised in conjunction with the Lions & Lioness Clubs of Zone 9, Region 3.

Music from 8.00pm, dancing till 2.00am ~ meal served approximately 9.00pm. Drinks must be purchased on the night as the Ball is fully licensed. NO BYO, NO ESKIES.

"However, personal it does become, with each juror revealing his or her own character, as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and the jurors become 12 angry men and women. The jurors' final verdict and how they reach it - in tense scenes that will electrify you and keep you on the edge of your seat - add up to a fine piece of drama and an experience you won't forget.

The first concert in this years'  St. James series of concerts will feature the popular Duo Soleares (Two Sandals)- Nicole Sherringham (flute) and Guiseppe Zangari (guitar).  Their previous performance at St. James in 2008 was an outstanding success, and this performance is long awaited.

At the age of nineteen, Don Tate volunteered for duty in the Vietnam War. The War Within is his story - the trouble-strewn path to manhood, participating in one of the most unpopular wars ever fought and struggling to find a place in society. This event also includes a special screening of historic Vietnam footage from Don's perspective as a young infantryman in 1969.

This Display is the second of the societies annual series of display shows. Various Orchid Genera will be on display for members of the public to view. There will be orchid plants for sale and experienced orchid growers on hand to give free advice on orchid culture. The Rotary Club of East Maitland Inc. will hold their annual sale of Mother's Day Flowers at various locations around the city. High quality chrysanthemums will be available. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to a wide variety of local charities and community groups.

Step into the past through the Family Album and enjoy a cocktail evening remeniscencing the fashions of years gone by. Fashions on show are from AMCAT Museum and members private collections.

The Hunter Region Botanic Garden & Port Stephens Council's Cultural Project Funds inaugural Sculpture Exhibition is open on Mother's Day and on display until 20 June 2010. The outdoor exhibition will be situated on the Eucalyptus Lawn against the beautiful native backdrop that is the essence of the Botanic Gardens, whilst smaller entries will be displayed in the Visitors Centre Gallery. Prize winners will be announced on Mother's Day, which is the official opening of the exhibition. All works will be for sale. Entries close 26 February 2010.

The Combined Churches of Morpeth proudly present the encore weekend of Chapel Jazz Festival from the 14th - 16th May 2010. Come along and enjoy great jazz music featuring the Geoff Bull Band, Australian Army Band (Newcastle), Preservation Jazz Band and U2charist.
The weekend will commence with a Dinner Dance at St James’ Hall from 7.00pm on Friday 14th. On Saturday 15^th swing to the blues at local churches from 11.00am – 6.00pm. Jazz Cafe at Church of Immaculate Conception 11am to 3pm and Geoff Bull band at St James 3pm to 6pm. The Geoff Bull Band will also feature at Club Morpeth from 7.30pm - 10.30pm. Sunday morning commences with a Combined Ecumenical Service at the Uniting Church 9am to 10am, followed by "Jazz Cafe" till 1.00pm. The music continues in the other churches until 7pm, with the Australian Army Band at Church of Immaculate Conception 1pm to 4pm, Preservation Jazz band at St James 2pm to 5pm and U2charist at the Church of Immaculate Conception 6pm to 7pm.

The Lovedale Long Lunch is an annual event, held on the third weekend in May. It is a progressive-type lunch where visitors wine and dine their way around seven participating wineries over the weekend enjoying a glass of wine, gourmet food, fabulous music and art.

See many and varied model displays, travel by full size train to Pelaw Main. There will be plenty of attractions for all to enjoy including other steam machinery and fair ground amusements.

Dr Keith Murree-Allen will accompany the combined choir on the Willis Pipe Organ and Evanne Sherringham will conduct the choir. The guest soloist for this performance will be Soprano - Kim Dover, Tenor - Paul Bevan and Bass - Craig Everingham. Trumpet soloist will be Fiona Watson.

Cessnock City Country Music Festival has announced details for their 2010 programme.
Presenting an outstanding line up of country music over 3 days, one great venue. The festival will be held from 21st to 23rd May at the East Cessnock Bowling Club. The programme will include concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings with Paul Costa & his band and The Wolverines, together with 30 other artists. The Hunter Valley Caravan, Camping, 4WD, Fish and  Boat Show is held over 3 days at the Maitland Showground. The show consists of over 200 exhibitors from around the country ranging from 5th wheelers, caravans and motorhomes right down to ingenious gadgets like portable cookers and washing machines to make the outdoors so much easier & enjoyable. Murder Mystery Parties are great fun. You and others will be caught in a web of intrigue as you become involved in murder. The scene: You have been invited to the Tracey Speakeasy, the hideout of the notorious Tracey Gang. The year is 1920 and the room has cigar smoke and snarling card playing gangsters will you survive the corruption and underhand dealings? You should come dressed as a gangster, cabaret dancer, godfather, flapper girl, pimp, cop, FBI agent, scarface, hit man or any other 1920's gangster style character.

Hunter Valley Gardens will for the fourth year running host the annual School Choir Competition, providing a platform for students and teachers to showcase their musical achievements and the chance to win cash prizes to enhance creative arts facilities and education resources in the school environment.

The society’s annual auction of Orchid Plants will be held on Thursday night, 10 June 2010 at the Masonic Hall, George St , East Maitland, commencing at 7:30pm. Society members bring in their excess plants for sale and they are offered up for auction in various lot sizes. Members of the public are invited to attend and participate in the auction. At the conclusion of the auction a light supper, at no cost, will be provided.

New to the Garden's calendar this year, Flavourfest will feature fine food, exquisite wines, exotic tastes, pampering zones and inspiring music. Please see the Hunter Valley Gardens website closer to the date for information about special celebrity guests, market stalls, demonstrations and more at Australia's largest display garden.

This is a faithful adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic story in which Boy and his Grandmother defeat the Grand High Witch and her followers, who are holding a Conference in an English seaside hotel. During the struggle, Boy gets turned into a mouse. The Witches are nothing like the ones who wear pointed hats and fly on broomsticks - they look very much like ordinary women, which helps their deception.

The new exhibition for The Australian Museum of Clothing and Textiles is titled “Nature’s Fashions”. Our exhibition will explore the wondrous variety of fibres that Nature has given us. Nature’s Fashions will feature articles and garments made from the variety of domestic fibres we know, such as Wool, Linen, Cotton and Silk ranging to the more obscure fibres of Pineapples, Banana and yes, even Mans’ best friend, the dog! Not only is the variety of fibres interesting, but the construction methods used to make the various items are too. Pressed Tampa cloth from Papua New Guinea, hand spun and hand woven cashmere and intricately crocheted linen. This exhibition is a fantastic opportunity of teachers and students of Fashion and Textiles to see such a wide variety of fabrics and fibres, garments and artefacts gathered in one place. Group school booking are welcome out of museum open hours.

Part tragedy, part comedy, the story moves between King Leontes' court in Sicilia and Bohemia. Complications arise from King Leontes and his Queen's friendly attentions to the visiting King of Bohemia. In a trial the Oracle of Delphi declares the queen guiltless but the King still banishes her. The Queen's newborn baby daughter, Perdita, is rescued from death by a Bohemian shepherd who raises her as his daughter. There is a long time lapse between the Queen's banishment and the delayed happy ending which has a few surprises.

Festival of Flowers is an event designed to immerse visitors in a visual and sensory experience. There are over 250,000 annuals planted throughout the many themed spaces of Hunter Valley Gardens along with fabulous entertainment, activities, attractions, demonstrations, talks, tours and workshops.  This event provides a stunning viewing and hands on experience for all visitors. Hunter Valley Gardens will also host The Pink Tea in aid of Breast Cancer during the festival.

The first part of the Doll Trilogy.  A joyful portrait of the summer of the first doll, in which a chance encounter brings Olive and Emma, Roo and Barney, into the shabby Carlton terrace to begin a seventeen year journey of seasonal love and argument. Kid Stakes introduces the fun-loving Nancy, who has left the scene by the seventeenth summer, adding a new poignancy to the story.

Come along to Richmond Vale's "Family Fun Fest", 2 steam engines and 2 diesel engines will be offering train rides all day!  See steam powered machinery and also a Teddy Bear display. National Water Week is a national event designed to assist our community to take actions that help protect and conserve our most precious resource - water. Colour-In's available from each library, in the week proceeding the event. To be returned to a library by Saturday October 16, 2010 to be in the running to win a prize.
